[簡介] Barry White

Barry White 是位 R & B / 靈魂歌手, 他的表演生涯共有 25 年,從 70 年代跨越到 90 年. 1999 年還分別獲得葛萊美最佳 R&B 男演唱人獎 (Best Male R&B Vocal Performance) 與最佳傳統 R&B 演唱獎 (Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance). 2003 年 7 月由於高血壓病逝於洛杉磯,享年 58 歲.

Barry White 最早是幫一個叫做 Love Unlimited 的女子團體從事專輯製作與混音, 1972 年他老婆 Glodean 與這個團體所發行的專輯 From A Girl's Point Of View We Give To You 在他的製作下拿到黃金銷售的成績,其中 Walkin' In The Rain With The One I Love 這首單曲還進入 Billboard 美國告示排行榜的第 14 名.

後來他還將靈魂樂與管絃樂團結合,剛開始他的唱片東家 20th Century Fox 還對他這個想法產生懷疑 -- 靈魂樂結合管絃樂團 ? 不過在他的製作下 - Love Unlimited Orchestra 這個靈魂管絃樂團誕生了,不僅如此,他們的首張專輯 Rhapsody In White 中, Love's Theme 這首歌還拿下 Billboard 美國告示排行榜冠軍.

1974 年 2 月, Barry White 在廠牌 20th Century 旗下發行個人第三張專輯 Can't Get Enough,這張專輯是他在 20th Century 旗下發型最成功的專輯,也是 70 年代他最具代表性的專輯.

Can't Get Enough 共出現兩首經典金曲,分別是 You're the First, the Last, My Everything 和 Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe.這兩首歌在電台播放率與暢銷排行榜上均創下傑出的成績,加上前一張專輯 Stone Gon' 的成功,奠定 Barry White 在 Soul 與 Disco 音樂上不朽的地位,進入 80 年代之前,他就製作了 22 張專輯,是個多產的製作人及歌手.

Barry White 的歌喉渾厚且充滿熱情,我在 Andy Smith (Portishead 的 DJ) 的 mixed cd - The Document 裡聽過 Barry White 為 Love Unlimited (3 人女子團) 製作的歌曲 Can't Seem to Find Him.
